Baby Loss & Sibling Bereavement Support on the Isle of Man
If you have lost a baby, a child, or a pregnancy, we are so sorry — and you are not alone. Arlo's Adventure is a registered Isle of Man charity (number 1288) offering emotional and practical support to the whole family, including brothers and sisters.
Why we understand
Arlo's Adventure was founded in memory of Arlo Arthur Owen, who was born at 27 weeks and spent his whole life — six weeks and one precious day — in the neonatal unit at Liverpool Women's Hospital. We are a family who has walked this road, and the charity exists so that Arlo's legacy can help other Manx families through the hardest days of theirs. You can read Arlo's story and more about the charity here.
How we support bereaved families
We support families bereaved by the loss of a child or a pregnancy — whether the loss was recent or long ago. We support the family as a whole, providing emotional and practical support, and we work to raise awareness of the effects of baby loss and pregnancy loss across the Isle of Man.
Our support includes "Just to say" care packages for bereaved families, and a private support group where families can connect with others who understand. We have also provided the hospital with miscarriage cradles, and we support the women's and children's department, including funding equipment for the neonatal unit, to improve care and outcomes for infants and children in need.
Siblings are an important part of our work, though not the only focus. Children grieve too, often in ways that are easy to miss, and they need help to understand what has happened and to keep their brother or sister's memory alive.
Our book for bereaved siblings
Written by Arlo's mum, Sarah, our book was created especially to support bereaved siblings — a gentle way for families to talk with children about the loss of a baby brother or sister. It is available through our shop, and every copy supports the charity's work.
