Help with Travel Costs for UK Hospital Treatment

When someone from the Isle of Man needs hospital treatment in the UK, their family shouldn't have to face the journey alone — or pay for it alone. Arlo's Adventure is a registered Isle of Man charity (number 1288) that helps Manx families with the costs of being at their loved one's side.

Who we help

We support Manx residents who require treatment in hospital in the United Kingdom, and their family members. Being treated off-island often means weeks or months away from home — in Liverpool, Manchester, or further afield. The Patient Transfer Service generally covers the patient's own travel, but family members who want to visit usually have to fund their own ferry, flights and accommodation. That's the gap we help to fill.

What we can help with

Transport

A contribution towards ferry or flight costs for family members travelling to visit a loved one in a UK hospital.

Accommodation

Help towards the cost of somewhere to stay near the hospital during your loved one's treatment.

Food & essentials

Vouchers towards food and essentials while you're away from home.

Leisure activities

Help towards moments of respite for family members — especially children — during a long stay away from home.

We provide this assistance where the costs are not funded by any other body or organisation.

Frequently asked questions

Who can get help with hospital travel costs from Arlo's Adventure?

We support family members of Isle of Man residents who are receiving hospital treatment in the United Kingdom. If your loved one is in a UK hospital and you need to travel to be with them, we may be able to help with your costs.

What costs can Arlo's Adventure help with?

We can help with the costs of transport (such as ferry or flights) and accommodation for family members visiting a loved one in a UK hospital, provide vouchers for food and essentials, and help with the cost of leisure activities during the stay. We provide this assistance where the costs are not funded by any other body or organisation.

Doesn't the Patient Transfer Service already cover travel costs?

The Isle of Man Patient Transfer Service generally covers the patient's own travel for approved off-island treatment. However, family members who want to be at their loved one's side usually have to fund their own travel and accommodation. That is the gap Arlo's Adventure helps to fill.
